Pass-by Technologies: The unit can
filter all network traffic that it "sees" on the Ethernet without
being involved
in the path between the client and the Internet. It has the ability
to "intercept" a session when necessary if it determines something
inappropriate is done, and return a message to the client and
server. Although the original request packets are transmitted in all
cases,
the unit will return a "block page" to the client if the request was
inappropriate.
This allows the unit to be totally uninvolved in the routing of
packets from client to Internet, allowing for automatic redundancy,
and
automatic fail-safe. If the R2000 should fail and filtering stops,
the network traffic is unaffected. When multiple units are installed
in
parallel, should one fail, the rest seamlessly take over the
filtering.
Many business clients will choose pass-by filtering since the unit
is not a point of failure in the network
or in other words, users will remain online and business will not be
affected should the unit fail, only that users will not be filtered.
Also, Pass-By Filtering is the most scalable and non-intrusive
method of filtering, in other words Pass-By Filtering will not drain
the network
resources and slow the network.
Easy to Install.
OS-independent, Ethernet-compatible appliance can be integrated in any network. Ability to install quickly, easily and reliably.
Built for Speed.
Specifically designed for heavy traffic, the unit to filter in “pass-by” mode, allowing packets to move past freely, avoiding latency and eliminating the “filter bottleneck.” Never touching a packet also means the appliance won't terminate the organization's Internet connection in the event of a failure.
Scalable.
The most robust and scalable filtering solution available, one server routinely filters more than 30,000 users, providing most clients with a one-time hardware purchase that scales to future growth.
Manage Internet Traffic.
Filters HTTP, FTP, Anonymizers, Search Engines, Newsgroups (NTTP) and TCP Port Blocking.
User Authentication.
Filters in a variety of authentication modes, whether by IP address, NT username or via LDAP.
User/Group Profiles.
If needed, administrators can select different filter profiles for individual users or groups thus allowing, monitoring or blocking access for a variety of situations, all from one unit.
Remote Control/Administration Capability.
Features set up and administrative screens accessed and managed via a standard Web browser, allowing management to be integrated into a network's existing control panels. One or more authorized individuals, from any location, can manage changes with a Web browser.
Multi-level Administration.
Allows complete control of group management, including unlimited filtered groups through IP ranges, with unique group administrators. A remote logon capability enables each administrator to manage their group or create sub groups for each location, customizing filtering criteria and managing the addition or deletion of sites that affect each sub group.
Custom Libraries.
Options allow customized profiles based on our extensive library of categorized Web sites, augmented by an organization's additions or deletions.
The Most Up-to-date Comprehensive Filtering Database.
Our library of categorized Web sites is one of the oldest and most complete in the filtering industry. Each day, a combination of automated search technology and human verification add to this library, which is made up of tens of millions of sites. Each night, library updates are uploaded to the, providing a constantly updated filtering library.
Benefits of Pass-by Technologies:
Improves Productivity.
Manage end-user access to the Internet, eliminating time wasted on unauthorized Web sites. Free up IT management for mission critical projects, rather than constantly addressing issues at the firewall or proxy. Eliminate the risk of losing your Internet connection and any business functions that depend on that connection.
Reduces Liability.
Provides management a tool to enforce an organization's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). Blocking selected URLs and IP addresses that may present a legal liability mitigates the risk introduced by access to the Internet.
Preserves Network Resources.
Conserve bandwidth by limiting access to broadband sites, including multimedia, shareware and program download sites and streaming radio. Avoid adding any software to the firewall, proxy or cache; keeping resources available for core functions. Avoid latency and general network slow-down with “pass-by” filtering. Pass-by technologies never touch the packets. f
